I wanted to be head boy so badly; I sat on my hands.

When I was in Primary school, I missed out on being head boy; it changed my life.

The story

I did not do the work, nor did I lobby teachers to put in a good word for me. My aura was my charm, and I thought it was huge. In hindsight, I was delusional.

My primary school enforced a strict rule against shoes with laces; my young mind saw it as a tyrannical rule, and that was the change I sought with that position.

I wore lace shoes until graduation, and I learnt that to cause real change, you needed to sit in power or a position where you can influence decisions.

This is where it gets interesting.

I'd go on to earn several leadership positions later in my academic journey, society and community, but at the heart of it all was people. You see, people are at the heart of everything; if you can get the people going, you can achieve anything.

This was ingrained in my heart, so when I boarded the career train, I began my search for where the heart was. Where I could cause the most change in people's lives, and I found product. But was it always product?

I dabbled a lot, but not necessarily as a form of taking a bite from every pie, but to understand how things move, from marketing to customer support, and side quests in engineering and design.

I figured the best way to make the customers happy, make the company money, and cause the change I wanted was product.

Over the years, I've gathered my infinity stones, just so customers can decide to wear shoes with laces. That's why I love product; the impact is tangible.

Now

Certified Scrum Product Owner with five years in regulated financial services, where getting the product wrong has consequences beyond a bad quarter. I sit between customers, commercial teams and engineering: gathering requirements, turning them into a prioritised roadmap, writing the user stories and acceptance criteria engineers build from, and being the person both sides ask when something is unclear.
